BIRTHDAY BURGER BAR BONANZA: Part 2
Nitty Gritty:
The official Birthday Bar of Madison. Free suds: very important. The burger: a fine enough piece of meat. But, any taste comes mainly from the hallowed Gritty sauce, a combination of fridge-door condiments. A B, but a solid B. The bunt of Madison burgers: hard to screw up, but people watching know that you could do something greater. Drank: Oktoberfest, couple others.
VARIATIONS ON A THEME: Vintage Apple Pie shots
They are delicious!
VARIATIONS ON A THEME: City Tequila Sunrises
I don’t even know any more. Good? They get me drunk?
AUGUST 27th:
Brasserie V: The Brasserie V. This is the first topping-heavy burger I’ve had. I could swear there was mint on the thing. Turns out, it was just the rich blend of flavors created from everything else, possibly the aioli, which is a thing I’m still Googling to find out more about. The onion straws went mostly unnoticed, any crispyness overwhelmed by the Texas toast, any saltiness overwhelmed by the delicious burger. Is that a flaw? Merely an observation: the rest of the burger is so overwhelmningly delicious that beer-battered onion strings, a stand-alone appatizer anywhere else, gets lost. An A+ I’m considering eating another one, and it’s not because the first was small.
Drank: Silly Saison. It’s a fun little beer, something that would go well paired with an orange. Also got a Blanche de Bruxelles, which looks like lemon juice. A weird thing to point out, but the taste is just… good. Not an overwhelming flavor, just a plesent brew.
MIDSEASON RANKING: Brasserie V, Blue Moon, Village Bar, Nitty Gritty. I really had to think about Blue Moon and Village, that could flip depending on how the wind’s blowing.
