BIRTHDAY BURGER BAR BONANZA: Part 3
Hawk’s
The first fundementally flawed burger I’ve had. The meat wasn’t juicy at all. It’s the first time I really wish I didn’t make one of my stupid rules ‘eat it as is’ because it really needed some ketchup. It was on a whole wheat bun, which is a nice touch, and I believe it was lightly toasted. But, with the patty, the main fucking part of the hamburger, below standard, I can only give it a C. Beer: Fransikanner weiss
Great Dane: Brat and Bacon Pretzel Burger
The thing that really jumped out at me was the fact that the best ingredient wasn’t mentioned in any of the 4 foods listed in the name of this piece. What really sells the piece is the sauteed onions dripping all lover. They provide an amazing balance to the salty meats and pretzel bun. Not enough good things can be said about the pretzel bun: a great idea, especially with it soaking up the sauteed onion sauce. The meats themselves are nothing to write home about, but they certainly don’t sabatoge the rest of the outstanding pieces. Overall, A-, but man that minus sign could come off at any moment. Drank: Verruckte Staut German Pils, which was another unflavorful brew.

The Old Fashioned: #30.
Wow. Flavor overload Excellent hunk of meat, the cheese and bacon were still on the tasting pallate, and the egg and sauce – mayo? – provided excellent, interesting additions. After the Great Dane, where I was worried I’d never love a burger again, I was instantly reminded that damn, there still could be some good ones out there. A+, right behind Brasserie V. I’m still having dreams about that one.
Drank: New Glarus’s Naked (ehh), Cherry Wheat from Shipwrecked (Ehh), Schlitz (yay!)
Plaza: Plazaburger
Another small burger, this time backed just with pickles and the Plaza sauce. Plaza sauce is legendary, and tastes pretty good to boot. It still can’t carry a limp patty, but it takes it further than the Nitty Gritty. B+.
Dottys - Melting Pot:
A damn fine blend of cheese on top, a delicious garlic mayo sauce on bottom. The meat: a perfect slice of beef. It’s an A, a notch above the Blue Moon / Village Bar hodgepodge, but below the Old Fashioned.
City: City Burger (I’d assume)
I was told I ate it too fast to enjoy it.
Overall: Brasserie V, Old Fashioned, Dotty’s, Blue Moon, Village Bar, Great Dane, Plaza, Nitty Gritty.
