College football: she taketh, she giveth
In 2006, Wisconsin went 11-1 in the regular season, losing only to #2 Michigan, who lost only to 12-0 #1 Ohio State. They were left out of the BCS, and honestly I was ok with it. Our non-conference schedule was miserable, we never played Ohio State, and we lost to the only decent team on the schedule. Now, it may happen again. If Ohio State beats Iowa, they’ll get a decent bump in the computers and leapfrog Wisconsin. Unless Northwestern rips off a bunch of wins (since they don’t play Ohio State), there will be no late season push in the polls. Once again, we’re sent to Florida for something like the 5th consecutive year. We don’t go to the Rose Bowl because we lost to Michigan State, fine. Pasadena’s always the goal, but the Fiesta, Orange or (please oh please oh please) Sugar Bowl* would be awesome. Lose a BCS tiebreaker? To Ohio State? No. No no no. * heads explode when brandy old-fashioned are ordered on Bourbon Street.
